The Model 3340 POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) fiber optic modems provide outstanding perfomance when it is necessary to communicate between two RS-232 based devices. These Modems provide isolation and immunity from the deleterious effects of lightning, power line surges, EMI and RFI. The large core size of the POF cable, 1mm, increases data reliability since all fiber connections are very robust. In addition, the data is inherently secure. The rugged nature of POF cable allows operations in environments subject to rough handling and containing chemicals and since it is non-conductive it can be safely used in explosive atmospheres.

The Model 3340 has full duplex capability to allow simultaneous transmission in both directions. All speeds are accommodated from DC to 256 KBPS over any distance to 100 meters (330 feet). The Model 3340 also accommodates the conventional "Break" signal. The RS-232 data is encoded and then transmitted down the POF cable. At the receiver the signal is decoded to restore the transmitted signal.

The DB9 connector allows direct coupling to a PC Comm port. For those applications that require a DB25 connector, a DB9 to DB25 adapter is provided.

The POF ports are implemented in ST connectors which provide simple yet reliable termination of the POF cable. Termination is a snap.
