Aftabyte's Plastic Optical Fiber, POF, allows
a user to redefine the options with regard to data communications cabling within
any facility. POF completely eliminates electrical interference, provides security
and can be used in environments not conducive to copper. POF is easier to
install, and is more durable and reliable than traditional copper or other types
of fiber cable.
POF works the same as traditional fiber in that cladding surrounds the
plastic core. The refractive index of the cladding is made smaller than
the core to keep the incident light rays reflecting down the core(fiber).
The connectorization of POF is simple since it is cut and stripped with
a razor blade. Polishing is only necessary when pushing the limits of performance.
